First Aid : Men touching Women?
I had an office meeting on Friday and in that one point we had discussed was that we need to have 2 volunteers that are happy to go on a first aid training course. I volunteered together with another male colleague. We have 3 women who work in the company as well - and one of them looked at me and said "You are not allowed to touch women…so how can you volunteer as a first aider?" I said, to her, you are right…..but nevertheless, my name was taken forward. The women started making jokes saying "They will make sure they dont fall sick, or need first aid when I was on duty." and we all laughed.
On a serious note - if such a situation arised, where the other trained first aider was not at the office and one of the women fell ill or needed first aid, what would I do? Is his permissible in Islam? My gut instinct says, if its is a matter of saving someones life, then its OK, as long as this does not become uneccessary and excessive and the niyyat is correct.
I will offcourse have to inquire about this and its validity before I start breaking some laws with Allah (SWT). Will keep you posted!

Thanks for your comments. I thought the same - as long a syour niyyat is clean etc. Again once can consider the scenario where the Woman (who is a muslim) does not want to be touched by a man when being treated etc.
Like say for example, a Muslim woman was in hospital, I think she would prefer to be trated by a female doctor esp if there was going to be prolonged contact for the duration of the treatment.
So all in all, I agree with you, and I think its OK to treat someone of ooposite gender, as long as intentions remain clean!

In my opinion, if some one needs help, it is regardless of gender, either male or female, and you are able to help, you should do it. What if there is a car or bus accident and you need to pull the other gender out from the accident site or she/he will die. Duty and responsibility is first. Allah is always merciful and helpful.

S.A im a first year student that is undertaking a nursing degree. I believe that intentions along with benefiting others is permisible in Islam. For instance in workplacement i had come to contact with men as well as females many times. I was there in order to aid them with their feeding/walking/ showering. At first i was uncomfortable being in that situation, to be honest still am. But how ever, i thought to myself im not there to benefit myself, in fact there are great hassanah’s in helping others. Nursing/ teaching, being a doctor are careers that trully benefit others.
